How to Buy a Barbecue Online
Your Guide to Finding the Perfect Grill Without Leaving the House
Ask any outdoor cooking enthusiast and they’ll tell you: the perfect barbecue can make or break your backyard, bring you years of sizzling summer mealtime bliss, and create nothing but contempt for any other forms of cooking (which, for the record, we agree are all invalid).
But the process of buying a barbecue in today’s modern e-commerce era can be disconcerting.
Without the up-close-and-personal experience of seeing and feeling the product in person, it’s a lot harder to picture it in that perfect spot on your backyard patio, with you cooking up a storm at the helm.
That lack of context can be off-putting, and can be the main factor in persuading customers to take the traditional retail route when it comes to buying a barbecue rather than the point-click-shop-in-their-bathrobes one.
(Okay, sure, you can still do the bathrobe thing in-store, but you might get some looks.)
Fear not: Helpful heroes to homeowners that we are, Barbecues Galore has prepared this step-by-step guide to help consumers through the process of finding and buying the right grill via the wonders of the web.
Step One: Research.
Decide which type of barbecue is right for you.
You won’t get far if you don’t know what you’re after.
The aficionados among us may already know specifics such as the grill make, model and size they need based on their backyard and cooking habits, but if you haven’t thought this far ahead, then the research phase is your first stop.
We’re going to be greedy and use our own site as an example (hey, you’re already here).
The best way to get this off the ground if you’re still filling in some blanks is to simply think about the criteria you’re looking for in the perfect barbecue.
- Gas or charcoal?
- Big or small?
- Backyard or balcony?
- Weekly, weekend or long weekend use only*?
NOTE: If you’re considering the option of long weekend use only, we strongly recommend rethinking your life decisions.
NOTE 2 - HOT TIP: Our 2018 Barbecue Book is a great place to get started.
Step Two: Browse, click & compare.
Find the barbecues that meet your needs for...well, meat.
Now that you know what you're after, a bit of time in this phase will give you a clear idea of the types of barbecues that meet your criteria and will do right by you.
Shamelessly using our own site as an example again, you can see that most online properties selling barbecues bring you a lot to look at. Our Outdoor Cooking menu, for example, can be a bit of an overwhelming shock for first-time browsers & buyers.
But not you, you clever shopper: you’ve narrowed down your choice to, say, a medium-large natural gas grill with at least 3 burners that’s good for casual family cookouts periodically throughout the summer. Oh, and with a price cap of $750.
And look at that: after clicking Gas Grills in our drop-down menu and filtering your choices based on the above, your endless search for a barbecue is now narrowed down to four models.
(Yes, we are plugging the awesome filter-ability of our product pages. We think it fits here.)
This is just one example of how just a bit of forward thinking and research can make a daunting task seem that much more approachable. Take some time to filter out the multitude of barbecues available online, and you’ll find this part a lot less stressful.
Which brings us to...
Step 3: Get specific.
Pick the greatest grills amongst your candidates and dive deep.
The path to final purchase needs at least one more step.
Although pages like the filtered one we linked above mark good progress in finding the right barbecue, you’ll still want to take a close look at each product’s specifications in order to understand just how close to perfection your pick will be.
Do we even need to say which website we’ll use as an example here? Probably not. Take a look at this product page to see all the glory of one of the Weber natural gas barbecues we carry.
Here’s what you should be utilizing this content for:
- Pictures. Look closely at the product images - do they look like your dream grill should?
- Product Features. Any grill can heat meat to a tasty temperature, but it’s the little things that really matter, right? Pay attention to the product’s benefits and see what stands out in terms of, “oh yeah, I need that.”
- Similar Products. We don’t want to make more work for you, but we do want to help you find the best barbecue for your needs. That can mean looking at other, similar products recommended based on your browsing so far. You never know what you might find!
- Customer Reviews. The best endorsements come from those who’ve been there. There’s nothing like someone else’s experience to make or break your purchase decision.
Step Four: The last-minute checkup.
Think of any remaining questions you may have about the product before you make your decision.
So far, if you’ve:
- Narrowed down your criteria for the type of barbecue you want...
- Taken a look at a selection of barbecues that meet your needs...
- Done product-specific due diligence…
Then you should be just about ready to get that grill in your backyard, where it belongs.
Ask yourself: is there anything about this product I still want to know that I don’t?
If the answer to that question is yes, then we strongly recommend contacting the retailer, or even the product manufacturer, to cover any last minute issues that may still be of concern.
Once you’ve done that (if you need to) and everything still seems satisfactory, you should be good to hit that big, shiny BUY button.
Step Five (Final Step!): Congratulate yourself on your new purchase.
Grab a drink and sit by the window to wait for your delivery.
Okay, so you don’t actually have to sit by the window and wait, although we probably would.
In all seriousness, we really do want to make this experience as simple and straightforward for those of you buying a barbecue via e-commerce for the first time, so we hope you found this guide useful.
If there’s anything more we can do for you to help with the process of purchasing a grill online, we’d be happy to help!
Thanks for reading, and happy grilling!
