This tasty recipe is a twist on the traditional maple baked beans you'd find at the sugar shack, or as I grew up calling it - la cabane à sucre. We're taking them to the next level with jalapeno and ham.
Ham & Jalapeno Maple Baked Beans
1 tablespoon oil
1 medium onion, diced
2 cups diced ham
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 jalapeno, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
14 oz can beans in tomato sauce
½ cup pure maple syrup
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Assemble your ingredients, place a cast iron cooking pot on the grill and preheat to medium. heated, pour the oil in the pot, and then add the onion. Cook, stirring often, until translucent.
Add the ham, cook for a few minutes, and then add the pepper, jalapeno, and garlic. Cover and cook for 10 minutes.
Mix in the beans, syrup, mustard, and Worcestershire, and cook, covered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove cover and cook for 5 minutes, allowing some of the liquid to reduce. Enjoy!
