Holiday Turkey Time Saving Ideas for Injecting Flavour

Here are a few homemade turkey injecting tips from our Barbecues Galore family to yours to help shake up the taste of your Turkey.

  1. PICK A BBQ SAUCE

Turn your favourite BBQ sauce into an injectable marinade with this quick and easy recipe.

  • Combine 3 tablespoons melted butter with a ¼ cup honey or maple syrup, and 3 tablespoons of your favourite BBQ sauce. Feel free to ‘get crazy’ and use a different marinade on each side of the bird – we think the kids today call it ‘fusion’ or a ‘mash-up’, … well not exactly.
  • Add any flavour of your choice, but we found that apple-based type sauce or sweeter-type BBQ sauces work the best.
  • Add 2 tablespoons cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon Tabasco/your favourite FURY, Neil’s Real Deal, or Slap Your Momma Hot Sauce. Ensure that it is mixed well and non-chunky.
  1. GARLIC LEMON PEPPER BUTTER

Make your own mixture of lemon pepper and butter for your turkey injection. This combination has convinced many people to give up cooking their turkey in the oven because grilling gets great results.

  • Add 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2/3 cup chicken stock
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon finely ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Tabasco (optional)
  1. DIRECTIONS
  • Mix all ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat until all ingredients are dissolved and well blended.
  • Let cool to room temperature before injecting in the turkey.
  • Before putting the marinade in the injector, whisk the mixture well to emulsify all the ingredients together.
  • Inject the bird about half an hour before frying – then follow the directions for frying the turkey below.
  • Both are good for 12–15-pound turkeys.
